Bridget and Spike

Posted 10/02/2006

Hello ... I just want to give you a little back story so you don't think that we have just decided we didn't want our dogs any longer.   They are in Reynoldsburg (suburb of Columbus) Ohio

In January, I lost my job and was not able to find and start a new job (which paid $20k less per year) until July, by which time I had fallen behind on my mortgage and now I don't even make enough to keep up my mortgage.  I am going to have to move and the place that we can afford does not allow large animals.  We would love to see Bridget & Spike stay together because they love each other very much.  But we would also be happy to know that they have found themselves in loving families who can appreciate each of their personalities and show them wonderful, happy lives.

Both of the dogs have been fixed and they are both just turning 2 - (not from the same litter, but were both pups when we got them from Pets Without Parents).  They are both German Shepard mixes but they are both mixed with different things and look completely different.
They are both up to date on the vaccinations and are healthy.

Bridget:  She has long, beautiful black hair and her chest has a rich, brown hue.  She is indeed a beautiful girl.  She reminds me of a boarder collie mix maybe with German Shepard.  I would say she probably weighs about 50-60 lbs.  She is actually the best dog in the entire world.  She is smart and learns whatever you teach her in an instant.  She is very loving to everyone and everything.  When we went into Pets Without Parents last Saturday and walked past the cages with kittens in it Bridget walked up and smelled them and one kitten went up to meet her face and Bridget licked the kitten.  At the pet store once, a little girl who could not have been more than 2 came up to Bridget with her hand out to pet her and she immediately sat down and allowed the child to approach her without having ever been told to do that.  She has 3 cats in the house and I have caught them taking naps together w! hen no one is looking (the cats like to pretend that they don't like the dogs, but it is obvious that they really do).  She has the instinct of a dog that is perfect with everyone.  Bridget is very pleasing.  By this I mean it always seems that her only intention is to make her people happy.  She lies by my bed and makes herself at home on her pillow and will not get up all night and it took absolutely nothing to teach it to her.  She SMILES.  I know that some people say dogs don't smile, but my baby smiles all of the time.  Bridget will be a perfect dog for most any family (not one who was looking for a protector, she needs to be loved and cared for).

Spike:  He has short brown hair with specks of black. He has a very slender build and probably weighs 45-50 lbs.  I might be very bad with my esitmations, but I can't be too far off.  He seems to be mixed with Chow Chow.  He has the black spot on his tongue and, especially when he was a baby, has wrinkles around his forehead.  He is very ornery, but in a good way.  He likes to romp and play tag in the back yard with Bridget.  He loves to go for walks and show off his humans to the neighborhood.  His main objective in life is to play.  He would never hurt any of our cats, but he likes to chase them.  His tail starts to wag like crazy and his goofy tongue hangs out of his mouth as he hops from side to side trying to initiate some type of play with anyone who will have it.  Spike loves to be outside as much as possible.  He just runs laps around the back yard (and actually has worn hi! s own path down to dirt).  He is protective of my 13 year old daughter and sometimes I think he thinks she is his girlfriend.  He loves her most sincerely.  A couple of weeks ago a boy came over to see her and Spike sat between them and barked at him the whole time (good boy).  He has never attacked anyone but he likes to make his presence known.  He would be a perfect dog for a family whose little boy (maybe older than a toddler) needs a dog to grow up with and be pals with.

They truly are the loves of our lives and we have spent the better part of the last 2 weeks crying since we realized what we had to do.  I am not sure if it is inappropriate of me to request that the families let us keep in touch, but we would really like to visit them every once in a while, if at all possible.

Please let me know if there is any other information you would like about them.  I apologize for being so verbose, but there is just so much to say about them.

thank you so much,

angie brill
