Animal Abuse Case, Lexington, TN

THREE MUTILATED DOGS ON THE PROPERTY, ANOTHER KILLED BY A CAR, A SKULL, SKELETON, TWO PENS FOUND, AND THE NEWSWOMAN TOLD DAVID FOSTER TODAY, WHEN SHE WAS OUT AT THE PROPERTY, THERE SHE SAW AN AX THAT HAS NOW DISAPPEARED! Just like this Johnson monster is going to do!

Letters need to be written, phone calls need to be made and if anyone would like to donate to help with the cost of caring for the rescued dogs!

Docket: 45627

John Johnson, the 24 year old white drifter, (with Mississippi drivers license and other id's) was in court this morning. His bail was reduced to $5,000.00 which means he could bond out for $500.00. Johnson convinced the judge that because he "turned himself in" that he deserved a lower bond.

No evidence was allowed to be shown; Officer Dowdy was not there, nor was Youngson from the Sherrif's dept. These were the folks, the ADA Bill Martin was relying on to present their investigative evidence.

UPDATE (6/12/06) - The court date had been continued to July so John Johnson could get a mental evaluation!   He has a public defender!

We desparately need your help.  The court date for John Johnson, who was charged with aggrevated animal cruelty, a class E felony, is June 13th at 1:00 in the Henderson County court house in Lexington.  I doubt very seriously if Johnson will show up.  His bond was reduced from$10000.00 to $5000.00.  He paid the $500.00 and walked out of jail.  David has been subpeoned to court and well as Mrs. Betty Mobley, who is the land owner who asked David to investigate the case.  I am very afraid that they will put David on the stand and make  him look like the criminal instead of John Johnson.  The ADA has never wanted to work with us on prosecuting any animal cruelty cases we have brought to him.  He was even quoted as saying what is all this fuss about dogs.  DA Jerry Woodall called for a meeting of David ADA Bill Martin, County Mayor Dennis Ray McDaniel and Sherifff Lunsford.

David asked to record the meeting and Woodall refused, saying if you have to record this and can't trust me then there is no reason to have the meeting. On the phone, Woodall told David that if the problem is with Bill Martin, then "he can be moved and we can get someone else in there to work with you."  David went into the meeting thinking they were going to work with him, instead it was all set up to intimidate David.  Woodall told David that if he gave any more press/media interviews, or sent out any more pictures on the internet of the cruelty case that he(David) is going to be on my (Woodall) bad side.  In the Henderson County News, you can find it on line, www.hcnewspaper.com  issue May 17, that David would not comment but everyone else that was interviewed made him look like an idiot.  This is what they want.  They don't care about what happened to the animals.  They are mad because David has brought attention to it.  If you haven't seen the pictures or the story ,you can see it on Pryor's Planet website and the letter we wrote to Woodall, that we recieved no response from is on there also.  There is also the story and pictures on West Tennessee Animal Coalition website.  WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!  For those of you who live close enough to be at the courthouse, PLEASE COME.  For those of you who live too far away, PLEASE PRAY. Thanks for everyone's support during this very trying time.  Thanks to everyone who called, emailed and/or faxed the officials.  Please do everything you can to make the people see that we (all of us) are taking a stand for the animals across  the nation. If you plan to be at the courthouse, please let me know.

May God Bless you all.

UPDATE: THE MONSTER MADE BAIL!

Next court date is June 13, 2006
*John Johnson is scheduled to return to Henderson County Court on June 13, 2006. At Johnson's bail hearing, bail was dropped to $5,000, which indicates he can leave jail for $500. Assistant D.A. Bill Martin was quoted as asking: "What's all this excitement over dogs?"

FURTHER UPDATE:  see Letter to Mr. Woodall

Why are the officials not taking this seriously?! Why are they ignoring the laws protecting animals? Why don't they understand the correlation between violence towards animals and violence towards people.

Woodall and Bill Martin want to meet with David Foster on Friday. They are not happy with all the bad attention their county is getting.Bill Martin is quoted as saying, "what's all this excitement over dogs!?"

The officials of Henderson County want to maintain the status quo: DOING NOTHING TO HELP THE ANIMALS!

"This Assistant District Attorney Bill Martin is way off mark in making the statement that he did.

Polite, yet firm, letters may influence the Judge in the upcoming sentencing. Let's roll up our sleeves and get busy "educating" these folks in Tennessee. Our Animal FRIENDS' lives depend on our getting involved in their behalf."

SAMPLE LETTER:

RE: Docket: 45627

Dear Honorable Officials:

Please accept my comments about John Johnson, 24, the Henderson County man charged with aggravated animal cruelty for mutilating his own pitbulls. I understand the Henderson County Humane Society uncovered at least three disfigured animals on the property. One dog had been beheaded and another's internal organs lay nearby. Apparently a skull, skeleton, two pens and an ax were also seen at one time.

I implore authorities to handle this case in a professional and serious manner. Johnson typifies sociopaths who view their victims as objects. He displays an inability to empathize, or recognize suffering, when hacking apart a living being.

I respectfully ask the D.A.'s office to seek incarceration and maximum fines for aggravated animal cruelty. Please ensure Johnson undergoes psychological evaluation and mandatory counseling. Since studies show animal abuse as part of a pattern of aggressive behavior, do everything possible to legally restrict Johnson's proximity to animals. He should not possess, harbor, or live alongside animals in any context. If applicable, request the prompt removal and re-homing of any animals who may remain in his custody.

Perhaps you are unaware that criminologists view the intensity of violent behavior (regardless of the victim's identity) as a precursor to future violence. Animal cruelty is a key trait in the American Psychiatric Association's profile for conduct disorders and the FBI identifies animal abuse as a stage along the animal-to-human violence continuum. According to Robert Ressler, founder of the FBI's behavioral sciences unit, serial killers and other psychopathic criminals are "the kids who never learned it's wrong to poke out a puppy's eyes."

Prolific murderers such as the Boston Strangler, Son of Sam, Jeffrey Dahmer and Ted Bundy practiced on animals before graduating to humans. Dennis Rader, notorious for the Blind-Torture-Kill murders in Wichita, Kansas, confessed to strangling cats and dogs prior to his sadistic spree. At Lee Boyd Malvo's trial, a court psychologist said the convicted serial killer stalked and killed cats with a slingshot. "This was probably the most serious problem...in a strikingly obedient child," he testified.

Men prosecuted for animal cruelty are five times as likely to be arrested for other violent crimes, according to extensive research by Frank Ascione, Utah State University professor of family and human development.

These dogs were defenseless animals. I thank you in advance for protecting society from the man who senselessly slaughtered and dismembered them.

Sincerely,
