Dogs, Cats and Kittens - Osawatomie, KS - Crosspost

Posted 06/25/2006

No photos yet of new animals but still getting the word out.  The pound is FULL of large and medium dogs and they're all wonderful!

"Jayne".  URGENT.  I MUST FIND SOMEWHERE FOR HER TO GO THIS WEEK.  She has been there since 5/22/06.  I had to move her from the pen into a cage to make room for Golda and it's hard on her.  She's a beautiful 10-11 months old puppy with delightful personality.  Please...please...please help me save her life!  She does need some basic training but then who doesn't?  The best reward in her opinion is swimming at the lake :-)  She's so good with my puppies and other dogs that I let her run around loose.  She comes back to me the second I call her name.  Jayne has earned my trust and she worked hard to get that.  Please help me save her!  She has been there so long that she's losing hair on her coat.  Again, I'm begging.  I'll find money somewhere to get her vetted if somebody would take her under your protection.

"Callie".  Female Black Lab with gray chest.  Large size of 50-60 lbs.  1-2 years old.  She came in on 6/5/05 and she was terrified.  Now she barks to remind me that she's ready for her romp outside.  Sits beautifully and lets me put the leash on her then walks confidently to the door and waits for me to open so we'd go for long walk.  What incredible progress she has made in such short period of time!  However, the pound with pens suitable for large dogs are full (2-6 are suitable for large dogs, 1 and 12 are permanent halves of a suitable pens.  When we get more, the 2-6 turn into halves and creating more cages but it's so small so the dogs lay in their bowel movements etc.  I don't like that at all.).  I am afraid I'd be forced to sacrifice her because she's black and nobody wants black dog--in order to ensure other large dogs are having roomy pens while waiting for their owners or rescues.  Please help Callie.   I adore her and I think she'd make a wonderful pet!

"Scooter".  Male Black Lab.  Medium sized of 40-50 lbs.  Maybe 2-3 years old.  Very shy & sweet.  He never had a collar on before and didn't know what to make of me when I put a collar and tried to take him on a walk.  He was found running loose with two other dogs (#2 & #13). (Working on hooking up with Ted, the head of animal control pound staff for photos.  Hopefully Tuesday)

"Surfer".  Male Yellow and white Lab.  Large size of 50-60 lbs.  1-2 years old.  Very sweet.  He came in bleeding but never complained.  He's okay now.  I cleaned him up and put neospirin on his paw.  Closed cleanly & everything.  He never had a collar on before in his entire life and didn't know what to make of the concept of going on walk with collar and leash.  He tried.  He'll learn.  He was found running loose with two other dogs (#1 and #13).  (Working on hooking up with Ted, the head of animal control pound staff for photos.  Hopefully Tuesday)

"Golda".  Ancient Shepherd/mix without a collar.  She came in on 6/23 so she has some time.  Sweet!  She loved to go on a walk with my mom yesterday.  When mom sat down on the grass while waiting for me to finish up everyone else, Golda laid her head on my mom's lap.  She's somebody's pet.  If the owner doesn't come in to get her, anybody out there interested in saving her life?  She's precious! (Working on hooking up with Ted, the head of animal control pound staff for photos.  Hopefully Tuesday)

"Brooke".  Black German Shepherd.  She's so skinny!  I dewormed her.  She's awesome dog!  Very playful and loved to go on long walk with me.  Very young- teeth wise.  1-2 years old.  But she has white on her face.  That tells us that she have had hard life already.  Totally friendly!  Brooke kept swirling around me in joy of being outside under the sun and rolling her back on the grass.  She's such fun dog to be with!  She has been there since 6/17/06 and it's clear the owners aren't coming in to get her so she needs a rescue badly.  (Working on hooking up with Ted, the head of animal control pound staff for photos.  Hopefully Tuesday)

"Sparkler".  Stunning female dog of beautiful coat.  Young. 1 year old.  She was found running with two male dogs, "Scooter" and "Surfer".  Very friendly!  She learned quickly that collar and leash was good thing and went outside to play in the sun with company of Jayne and me while my mom and Golda watched.  She loved it so much that she cried when the playtime ended and I had to carry her back into small pen.  She has thick coat of light brown and pure white.  Size of a smaller Lab.  She's not a border collie.  I don't know--maybe Lab/mix?  She's awesome lady.  (Working on hooking up with Ted, the head of animal control pound staff for photos.  Hopefully Tuesday)

One more thing, I'm taking care of 5 horses and 3 dogs at a farm near Hillsdale Lake, KS (Kind close to Paola).  The clients told me how one dog named Jenny showed up on Memorial Day.  They've tried and tried to find the owners with no result and they were having the Sheriff come to get the dog but found out I'm a dog rescuer.  They've called the sheriff off.  I need somewhere for Jenny to go.  She's awesome!  Just doesn't like small children and that's why it's not working out at her "new" home she found.  2-3 years old Border Collie/Lab mix with short hair and black, white and grey coat.  She's awesome

CATS AND KITTENS
kittens (one lonely kitten was moved into the litter of 4.  Everybody gets along great).  They have been there since 6/15/06 and cats/kittens do not cope well being in the cage for long time.  I've seen couple of cats who just wither away and die in their sleep.  I really want to move them pronto.  Anybody out there with space available?  You'd have 5 very grateful kittens as your reward :-)

Camilla.  Female Tuxedo.  Oh man, what a lovebug she is!  I cleaned her up and she looks so good now!  She loved being brushed and kept begging me to give her "massages".  She may not be a stunning beautiful cat like others such as Raina (from few months ago--super model like cat) but her heart is pure gold.  I got her a little scratching post to give her something to do.  I didn't have enough to get everybody a post or toys so she's the one who got something.  Anybody interested?

Amicia (Italian for female friend) This cat belonged to somebody!  I know it.  But the owner is MIA.  Gray stripped cat with tiger studded collar and a bell.  Very friendly!  Loved to be in my arms and even enjoyed being combed.  Rolled onto her back to let me know that she wanted me to scratch her tummy.  She's a glorious cat who has right to live to grand old age in despite her selfish owners who doesn't even try to call the pound.

Carolyn and Cindy.  Diluted Calico momma cat and her daughter.  Nobody even stepped in to rescue them!  They're beautiful!  The kitten is very friendly!  The momma let me do anything to her!  Hold her, pet her back and tummy, rub her ears, and she kept looking at me like, "Are you getting my kid and me out today?  No?  Well, when?"
