Lab-X (pregnant) - On Euth list -
Attacked by Kennelmate

I stood by helplessly as a dog who had clamped his teeth around this scared sweet, very pregnant lab mix's head was pried off her by two ACTs at the shelter.  The other dog had pinned her to the floor as she cried in fear. The other dog was biting her again and again until the ACTs intervened.

Her injuries were amazingly minor so I took her outside to try to comfort her and give her a little TLC. Her legs were shaking so much she could hardly walk and her eyes were big as saucers [you can see her looking around in fear in the photos].  Slowly she began to relax a little and she obviously just wanted to be held and loved.  Apparently this is the second time that she was attacked by her kennelmate, but the shelter is so crowded they had no where else to put her.

A sad side note: They euthanized 72 dogs yesterday.  72 dogs. It boggles the mind what society thinks is ok to do to our "throw away" animals. The entire day I watched as people, and families, usually happily came to the front desk and turned in their frightened and bewildered dogs.  Their reasons came from a short list: "I'm moving", "she's too old.  My son wants a puppy." "The landlord." "Uh, I found her." "I can't afford to take him to the vet."  Please don't let her be on tomorrows list.
