Dorothy

There WAS no place like home for Dorothy. The Rescue Train received a plea for “ Dorothy - the super sweet, 8 year old Shepherd/Husky” at the North Central Animal Shelter. Dorothy had lived with her owner’s her entire life. She knew one home. Dorothy’s family turned her into the city shelter because they bought a new puppy. The shelter worker on duty that day was horrified. She begged them to understand that this dog would most likely be ethunanized in our crowded city shelter. Do you know what her owners said? “That’s OK she’s old and we want a puppy!” Dorothy whimpered in bewilderment as her owners turned their backs on her and walked out of the shelter. When I went to see Dorothy at North Central she looked heartbroken. I knelt down and softly called her name and she started to cry. The unconditional love that dogs give us is just that. Even though Dorothy’s owners brought her to face death she still looks for them wanting to go home.
The Rescue Train could not turn their back on this beautiful girl. It is our mission to let Dorothy have a happy ending. To show her that humans are loving and kind. The thing about Dorothy is…she’s not that old! She’s healthy and strong! Full of energy. Loves to go for walks. She has a lot of life to live.
