TONNIE THE LITTLE COCKER SPANIEL
Posted 06/29/2006
Back in January of this year, Cassandra of Feral Cat Caretakers Coalition, Christina, Shelley and I spent two days trying to rescue a starving, beaten and poisoned little black cocker spaniel who apparently had been dumped in Bill Botts Field here in Culver City. After 2 rainy, cold and stressful days (and about 10 extra strong Starbucks lattes), Cassandra managed to catch the little girl and named her Tonnie. The pup is only about a year old.
With good medical care and constant supervision, we all thought Tonnie had finally come around. The big surprise came when, literally overnight, she developed a major cataract in one eye and a slower-growing cataract in the other eye.
The poor little thing has been dragged to various vets since the cataracts were discovered about 2 weeks ago. With a couple of excellent leads in Camarillo and Tustin, we finally realized that surgery is the only way to go, and since she is so young, she really deserves a chance to lead her life without being blind.
I have taken care of all of the preparatory work ($588.27) and thanks to Feral Cat Caretakers Coalition, there will be a discount applied to Tonnie's surgery. The surgery is estimated at $2,144 with the discount.
Time is of the essence and she is due to have surgery on July 26th. After that she will need constant supervision for quite a while, so she is going to live in my office for about 2 months.
Thanks in advance for any help
If anyone is interested in helping, I will be pleased to make her medical information, costs, etc. available as well.
