Camarillo Shelter Animals Need Forever Homes

Posted 06/29/2006

A posting in an "animal news group" by anonymous "rescuer" alleges that the Camarillo shelter is going to destroy animals to make room for boarding animals over the 4th of July weekend.

The Director of the shelter responded:

Unfortunately, Santa Barbara volunteers or resuers or whatever they are
have been making up these kinds of lies and distortions for years.
There is no set number of pens that we want empty. In an ideal world they
would all be empty. We know that we will take in between 20-100 dogs
next week, starting this Saturday. Some will be immediately reclaimed by
responsible owners but many more will be left to wait until after the
Holiday for the convenience of the owner. What we always hope for is
maximum adoptions prior to the 4th to make room for the 4th-5th influx.
Rescues are stepping up to the plate as usual but there are still some
great adoptables ready to go. Small dogs are getting out much faster than
large ones. We expect Saturday (7/1) to be a big adoption day. I'll
give you an update on Monday as to what still needs placement. Thanks for
the help.

The fact is that it is a kill shelter (like so many others in the country) therefore, holiday or not, the animals need rescueing.
