BUDDIES STORY Hello,
I was visiting my dad in Dickson this weekend when a beautiful young dog that we've named "Buddy" wandered up. My dad told me that Buddy was rescued from a car that was about to be crushed at a junkyard. The guy that rescued him took him home, but he already had a dog and was unable to take care of another, so Buddy became sort of a neighborhood dog. We just had a dog put to sleep last week, so I figured I could give Buddy a home. However, I wasn't smart enough to consider that a young dog has a lot more needs than an older, trained dog. My mother wouldn't mind keeping him here as an outside dog, but she's going to have to have surgery soon and won't be able to do much for four to six weeks. I'm interning 40 hours a week and soon I'll have to go back to college, so I'm not able to give the dog the attention it deserves.
This dog really deserves a nice, loving home and plenty of attention, but that's not something that my family can provide right now. Our previous dog was allowed to roam free around the neighborhood, but she was very old and knew how to keep out of trouble and stay away from danger. I'm afraid to let Buddy roam free because I'm sure he'll end up in danger. Unfortunately, that means that he stays in the garage all of the time that I'm not walking him, and during the night/day he's confined to a carrying crate. I /hate/ the fact that I have to keep him like this, but I really have no other option. I also don't want to take him to a shelter where he's in danger of being euthanized. He's really very smart, and is already very good on a leash. He also calms down quickly after being left alone. He has a slight problem with jumping and play biting, but I'm doing what I can to discourage this behaviour. He has no problem at all with kids. He hasn't really been around other dogs, so I'm not sure how he'd act around them. Like all younger dogs, he loves to explore and get into things.
Again, Buddy is a great dog, but my family's just not capable of taking care of him right now. I was wondering if the FFAS would be able to foster him until he found a nice home to live in. If not he'll unfortunately have to go to a shelter. He's very cute and playful, so hopefully he'd be adopted before being put to sleep, but I'd rather not take that chance. I've attached a couple of pictures of him. Also, I have a large bag of Science Diet for puppies that I'd be more than willing to give away with him. Please let me know if you're able to help. You can e-mail me back at this address. I check it everynight when I get home from work.
Thanks, Paul
