Roamer

Posted 07/30/2006

Last hope to help find this stray dog a place where he can probably find a forever home.
ROAMER HAS A SPONSOR!

Roamer's Story:

“Roamer” as I named him, has been in the area (Houston in the 1960/I-45 )  since last October.  He is a Shar Pei/ German Shepherd Mix.

He would not come close to anyone or allow people to get close to him, he does not have a mean bone in his body, he is deathly afraid of people and runs away.  Since that time, I have been leaving for food for him in the places that I know he hangs out.  About two weeks ago, he came into my complex with an older very sick dog (Roamer looks to be in excellent condition) brought the older in, fed him, but Roamer stayed outside, watching me like a hawk the whole time, I fed him too and gave him water; that was in the morning, by the afternoon my vet came over and after examining the older dog, said it was best to pts because he was dying anyway, could not breath, gums very pale, so she did.  After that “Roamer” started to come around every day.  Now he lets me come close to rub his belly, eats out of my hand, is excellent off leash.

He is a diamond in the rough, who just needs someone to have patience with him, I know he would return any kindness offered to given by 1000%.

I am not able to keep him at this time, was thinking about it, but I got laid off and the transmission in my car went out, so I have been frantically trying to find a home for him, but so far nothing.  I have posted him on craigslist.com, houstonrawfeeders.com, idog.com; have also taken his picture to school and nothing.

There is a lady in Washington who responded to my post and said she will be willing to sponsor him, pay for his vet bill and all if I could find a rescue place to take him, also I would be willing to buy his food, as he has grown very fond of green tripe.

Please let me know if you have room for this special boy, in spite of having been dumped by a very non loyal human, he still wants so much to belong.  I have seen him play with other dogs large and small, and he is great.  Because he is scared of people, I don’t think small kids would be good for him.
